The American League fell behind early at the 2024 MLB All-Star Game. But the home team responded with five unanswered runs, including a tie-breaking two-run blast from Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran in the 5-3 victory.

Duran, 27, won the MVP award in his first All-Star Game. The AL captured its 10th win in the past 11 All-Star games, rebounding from a loss in 2023.

The Midsummer Classic began with two scoreless innings before Shohei Ohtani launched a monster three-run home run in the top of the third. He became the first player in MLB history to hit a home run and earn a win on the mound (2021) in his All-Star game career.

Ohtani's home run was all the offense the National League could muster. The NL tallied 10 hits on the night but was held scoreless in the final six innings.

Juan Soto's two-run single in the bottom of the third kickstarted the American League offense before David Fry brought Soto home to even the score. Duran's two-run home run broke the tie in the fifth inning.

The American League recorded just five hits in the All-Star Game, but that proved enough to win the Midsummer Classic once again. The AL has won 10 of the last 11, though the NL won in 2023.
