Netflix’s “Survival of the Thickest” is back for Season 2. Creator and star Michelle Buteau is excited to bring the next season to the bustling streets of New York . Read more inside.

Created by the hilarious Buteau (Babes, The Circle) and the talented Danielle Sanchez-Wittell (New Girl), this comedy series isn’t just surviving—it’s thriving! Season 2 is already in production and set in the streets of New York.

The ensemble cast from Season 1 is returning, featuring Buteau herself, along with Tasha Smith (Bad Boys: Ride or Die), Tone Bell (Trigger Warning, Coyote vs. Acme), Liza Treyger, Peppermint (Harlem), and Marouane Zotti (I May Destroy You, Bodkin). But that’s not all—new guest stars are joining the fun, including Anderson .Paak, Jonathan Chad Higginbotham, Deon Cole, Alecsys Proctor-Turner, Jerrie Johnson, Celisse, Rolonda Watts, Michael Rishawn, Tika Sumpter, Monét X Change, and RonReaco Lee.

“Survival of the Thickest” tells a story only Buteau could bring to life. Inspired by her acclaimed book of essays with the same name, the first season’s eight episodes follow Mavis Beaumont (Buteau), a stylist whose life takes a nosedive after she catches her partner (Taylor Selé) cheating. But Mavis isn’t one to stay down for long. With the support of her best friends, she picks up the pieces of her life—and a lot of designer swag—rebuilding her career on her own terms. Along the way, she creates opportunities for those overlooked by the fashion industry and dives back into the daunting dating scene.

Before becoming the main character in “Survival of the Thickest,” Buteau was already a familiar face, hosting shows like “The Circle” and “Barbecue Showdown,” and starring in her own comedy special, “Welcome to Buteaupia.” She’s also known for stealing scenes in numerous rom-coms.

Season 1 left us on a cliffhanger as Mavis turned down Jacque’s attempts to reconcile and instead jetted off to Italy to win over the charming Luca (Zotti). In the upcoming season, Tasha Smith will not only become a series regular but also direct two episodes. Other directors for Season 2 include Kim Nguyen (Prom Dates, Never Have I Ever), Thembi Banks (Young. Wild. Free., Insecure), and Amy Aniobi (Insecure, 2 Dope Queens), who will also serve as showrunner.

Stay tuned to Tudum for more updates on Season 2. We can’t wait to see how Mavis’ journey continues. Catch up on Season 1 on Netflix now.
