Blair County churches to give away food, clothes, school supplies

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Newry Lutheran Church and the Geeseytown Lutheran Church will be distributing free items to those who need them in July and August.

The Newry Lutheran Church, located at 1030 Shamrock Lane, will distribute bags of food from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, in the church social hall. It’s part of their “Meal in a Bag” program.

The bag will contain enough food to prepare dinner for a family. Bags will be distributed while supplies last at no charge. There are no income guidelines to receive the bag of nonperishable food items.

Bags are distributed every month on the last Saturday.

The Geeseytown Lutheran Church, located across from Geeseytown Fire Company, will be giving away free clothing and school supplies. The giveaway will take place from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, and Saturday, Aug. 17 in the church’s basement.

Future clothing giveaways will be held on the first Saturday of each month. Yard sale items and hot dogs will also be available to purchase in the parking lot, weather permitting.

Both initiatives are made possible through grant funding by the Allegheny Synod, ELCA.
