    Thunderstorms Expected Along Oregon Cascades and East Slopes Tonight

    Tonight (Tuesday):

    • Thunderstorms : Storms are expected to develop along the Oregon Cascades this evening and continue overnight. There's a 50-60% chance of thunderstorms along the Cascade crests and east slopes of Oregon.

    • Fire Weather Warning : In effect until tomorrow for the Oregon Cascade crest and east slopes due to thunderstorms, outflow winds, and instability.

    Wednesday:

    • Thunderstorms : Storms will move north and northeast along the east slopes of the Washington Cascades and through the lower Columbia Basin. Thunderstorms are expected in the southern Blues and Strawberry Mountains.

    • Fire Weather Warning : In effect from 11 PM tonight through 5 PM Wednesday for thunderstorms, winds, and low humidity. Extreme fire behavior is possible.

    • Heat : Continued high temperatures with little overnight relief. An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for the Kittitas and Yakima Valleys until 10 PM Thursday. Heat advisories are in place for other areas including the Simcoe Highlands, Gorge, John-Day Basin, and foothills of the Blues and Columbia Basin.

    Thursday:

    • Weather Pattern : Another system approaches, bringing locally breezy westerly winds through the Cascade gaps and into the Columbia Basin.

    • Heat : The heatwave continues, with high temperatures and minimal overnight cooling.

    Long-Term Forecast: Friday through Tuesday

    • Overall Weather : Hot and dry conditions will persist into early next week. Cooler but still above-normal temperatures are expected by Tuesday.

    • Friday : A strong ridge over eastern Idaho with a large offshore trough. Temperatures will be slightly cooler than Thursday.

    • Weekend Heat : Saturday and Sunday will be the hottest days, with widespread temperatures of 100-105 degrees in the lower elevations. Sunday could see temperatures as high as 108 degrees.

    • Monday and Tuesday : The ridge weakens, leading to slightly cooler temperatures. Monday will still be very hot, but Tuesday will see temperatures drop to the lower to mid-90s in the lower elevations and 80s in the mountains. Breezy conditions expected through the Cascade gaps.
