Her older sister, Ruby, won two Maine Women’s Amateur golf championships and now Jade Haylock wants her own.

Jade Haylock put herself in position to do just that on Tuesday, shooting the round of the tournament so far, a one-under-par 71, to build a six-shot lead after two rounds of the Maine Women’s Amateur at the Biddeford-Saco Country Club in Saco.

The final round will be on Wednesday.

Haylock, the three-time Maine schoolgirl Class B individual champion from Leavitt High School in Turner, has a two-day total of four-over-par 148. She shot a 77 on Monday.

Sister Ruby is one of two golfers who are six shots back as she followed an opening-round 79 with a 75 on Tuesday. Also at 154 is Abby Flanagan from the Springbrook Golf Course in Leeds.

Flanagan rebounded from an opening-round 82 with an even-par 72 on Tuesday.

Her 72 is the second lowest round of the tournament.

The Haylocks play out of the Turner Highlands Country Club.

Ruby Haylock, who will be a junior at Bates College in Lewiston in the fall, won the Women’s Amateur in 2020 and 2022.

Defending champ Erin Holmes from the Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland Center is alone in fourth with a 12-over par 156 after she shot a 75 on Tuesday to go with her 81 on Monday.

Tied for fifth at 15-over-par 159 are Elizabeth Holden (81-78) from the Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro and Ruth Colucci (79-80) from the host Biddeford-Saco Country Club.

At 16-over-par 160 are Thea Davis (81-79) from the Hermon Meadow Golf Club and Maria Cianchette (78-82) from the Woodlands Club in Falmouth.

There is a four-way tie for ninth at 161 involving Carley Iannetta (85-76) and Allison Landes (82-79) from the Woodlands Club, Ruth Weeks (85-76) from the Portland Country Club and McKenna Castle (82-79) from the Biddeford-Saco Country Club.

First round leader Cecily Whiting from the Woodlands Club struggled to a second-round 91 on Tuesday after carding a four-over 76 on Monday. She is at 23-over-par 167.

Forty-five of the 89 golfers who began the tournament made the cut.

    The cut line was a plus-38 182.

Jade Haylock’s round was highlighted by an eagle-three at the par-five ninth hole.

Haylock, who will be a senior at Leavitt High in the fall, also had birdies at holes 3, 6 and 12 and bogeys at 1, 4, 11 and 14.

    Flanagan had five birdies at 3, 9, 12, 15 and 17. She bogeyed 4, 5 and 14 and had a double bogey at 16.

Ruby Haylock had one birdie at 12 and had bogeys at 7 and 18 and a double bogey at 11.
