NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — Emergency resources can be very scarce for many people in crisis, but the 988 Hotline has been that bridge for many dealing with mental health issues.

The 988 Hotline has been a valued resource that has allowed people to reach out for help when dealing with suicidal thoughts.

Since the start of the hotline officials say the calls have increased dramatically.

However, according to Suicide Prevention Administrators, calls into the hotline that result in a 911 call or where police are involved is fewer than 1%.

Although the hotline is prepared to accept calls from all types of people, you do not need to be in a crisis to call the hotline in order to receive help.

“Our calls end with some remark about how helpful it has been we also have a care and support program, so we recognize when that call isn’t enough and when someone needs more support from us and they express it has been really helpful and that they really enjoyed speaking with us,” said Jeremy Brown, a partner at FirstLink

The 988 Hotline is also working on spreading the message through a campaign that includes showing the hotline on billboards and buses.
