BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Here’s good news for Bay County property owners, your county tax rate will not increase next year.

On Tuesday, County Commissioners voted to cap the millage rate at 5.43 mils. That’s the same as the current rate.

While commissioners don’t have to pass the budget until sometime in September, Chairman Tommy Hamm said he wanted to make a commitment to taxpayers now, by capping it at the beginning of the budget cycle.

“We’re standing firm with our commitment there. You know, we’re not raising taxes. So there the ceiling is the rate. So we can’t change it. There’s no turning back. So we’re you know, we’re committed this next year to just living within our budget,” Hamm said.

The commissioner also held the line on the mosquito control district tax at .02 mils and the MSTU fire service district at 1.38 mils.
