Los Angeles Chargers wide receivers further disrespected ahead of training camp

With Jim Harbaugh becoming the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, the team will take a much different approach offensively. Harbaugh is a run-first head coach who believes in a strong offensive line. But he's also been around long enough to know what he has in Justin Herbert.

Herbert probably won't throw the ball around as much as he has thus far in his career, but the passing attack is not going to suddenly be terrible just because Keenan Allen and Mike Williams aren't around anymore.

The Chargers' wide receiver room has caught a lot of flack this offseason and that continued when Cory Benjamin of CBS Sports put together a list of the top training camp battles to watch this summer and those wide receivers made the list .

But he also had this to say:

"It's no wonder new coach Jim Harbaugh invested in the trenches and run game, because they may need to carry the offensive load in 2024".

Chargers wide receiver battle features plenty of promise

On paper, the Chargers have room for more help at wide receiver. But if Quentin Johnston can have a bounce-back year and if D.J. Chark can offer some veteran consistency, the group can be very good.

Josh Palmer has untapped potential and the consensus opinion of rookie Ladd McConkeys is quite positive. Add in Brenden Rice, who many draft analysts had a fourth-round grade on, and this group offers a chance to give the Chargers a tough, balanced offense.

And if a big-splash option is needed, the idea of acquiring Brandon Aiyuk from the San Francisco 49ers could be quite real.
