Sanders extends tax filing deadline for areas affected by Memorial Day weekend storms

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued an executive order to extend the tax filing deadline in response to the tornado outbreak that swept through Northwest Arkansas on Memorial Day weekend.

According to the executive order, the Secretary of the Department of Finance and Administration has been ordered to extend the 2023 income tax filing date, income tax payment date, 2023 pass-through entity tax filing date, and pass-through entity tax payment date for returns that are due between May 24 and October 31 to November 1.

The order applies to residents in Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Fulton, Grant, Greene, Madison, Marion, Nevada, Randolph, Sevier, and Sharp counties. Those residents will have until November 1 to file their income tax, pass-through entity returns and pay income and pass-through entity taxes.

According to the order, the extension includes 2023 returns for individuals, Subchapter S corporations, Subchapter C corporations, pass-through entities, fiduciaries and estates, partnerships, and composite returns.

The order also extends the deadline for those residents to make quarterly estimated income tax payments between May 24 and October 31 to November 1. Provisions requiring a written request for an extension to file an individual income tax return have been waived through November 1.

According to the order, provisions limiting an extension for filing a personal tax return to 180 days have been waived through November 1.
