SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Tuesday, Utah! It’s another round of hot temperatures and afternoon thunderstorms for the state as moisture continues to rotate through the dominant ridge in place.

Daytime highs will climb into the mid-90s for the Wasatch Front with a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm this afternoon. In southern Utah, the high heat continues with a better chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms as moisture will favor areas of central and southern Utah throughout the day.

Going into Wednesday, we’ll see a little less moisture, with less of a threat of storms in central and southern Utah. Temperatures will be hot everywhere with 100° forecast across the Wasatch Front. This is the hottest time of the year for us, typically with an average daytime high of 95° for Salt Lake City.

High pressure will stick around, with the ridge slowly shifting westward. Daily showers and thunderstorms will continue across southern Utah and higher terrain through the weekend and into next week. Thursday and Friday will bring more moisture, expanding thunderstorm chances northward across almost the entire state.

The main threats will be gusty outflow winds and potential flash flooding, especially with any decent storms forming in southern Utah.

As the ridge shifts west, northerly flow will bring drier air starting Saturday, reducing rain chances in the north. Daytime highs will stay just above normal through early next week with triple-digit heat forecast over the weekend through Monday. Excessive heat will likely hang on in Lower Washington County, where minimum temperatures might hover around 80° for the St. George area, leading to potential heat-related impacts. Stay tuned.
