MLB legend calls out All-Star Game uniforms

For most of the MLB All-Star Game’s history, players wore the jersey of the team they were representing. That changed in 2021, with players wearing customized jerseys.

Being generous, we’ll say that the change has been met with mixed reviews. We can count former All-Star Fred Lynn among those who do not like the new uniforms.

During the 2024 All-Star Game on Tuesday, Lynn jumped on X (formerly Twitter) to share his distaste for the uniforms.

“How can you make the fans of your city proud, when you wear THESE uniforms at the All Star Game? Seriously? Lynn asked .

Lynn is a big part of All-Star Game history. He was a nine-time All-Star during his career, representing the Boston Red Sox six times and the then-California Angels three times. In 1983, he hit the first — and to date, only — grand slam in Midsummer Classic history en route to the All-Star Game MVP.

His opinion was shared by several people.

Earlier on Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reported that Commissioner Rob Manfred was at least considering returning to the previous custom of players wearing their team’s uniforms.

We can safely say that Lynn would be behind that move.
