Storm causes damage across Jefferson County

PERRY ( KSNT ) – Communities are still picking up what is left after damaging storms rolled through Northeast Kansas during the morning hours of July 16.

Jefferson County was one of the areas that was impacted by the storms. The strong winds from the storm caused damage to trees of all sizes. Some larger trees were even uprooted from the ground. Some people across the county also lost power. There have been no reported injuries from the storm.

KSNT 27 News spoke to the Jefferson County Emergency Manager who said that the damage spans across the county.

“We saw almost county wide trees down towards the east, along with the wind line,” said Jefferson County Emergency Manager Keith Jeffers. “Anywhere from six inch trees or branches down up to this one behind us, that’s about five feet in diameter.”

Jeffers also said that the majority of the power in the county is back on after crews were fixing that issue all day.

KSNT 27 News also spoke to a few residents who had their property damaged by the storms. Two of the people had damage to their fences. They said they were thankful the trees did not fall on their homes and that everyone was ok.
