SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – As the school year grows closer, Woodbury County is preparing for the return of students and the return of school lunches.

The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with Sioux City Community Schools during Tuesday’s meeting to provide daily meals to juvenile detention for the upcoming school year.

In the contract, the juvenile detention center will pay less than $13 per child for a full day of meals, a more affordable option compared to the previous meal provider CBM Food Service.

“This is our second year of contract working with the Sioux City school district to provide meals for juvenile detention,” supervisor Daniel Bittinger said. “We wanted to find something that was affordable yet provided healthy meals for the program there, and that was a cost benefit, so director Weber was able to find that and work with the school district to be able to provide that.”

The county will see a 10 to 15 cent increase in the price of meals compared to the first year’s contract.
