BROADALBIN, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A Fulton County Sheriff deputy is being credited for helping to save an unresponsive infant on Sunday.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, dispatchers in Fulton County received a call for an unresponsive and not breathing 1-year-old girl at the Broadalbin Boat Launch on Route 110. While enroute, the callers told dispatchers the baby had left the boat launch and was being transported in a private vehicle.

Deputy Nathan Marshall spotted the vehicle and stopped the car. The driver said they had an “emergency,” and Deputy Marshall instructed them to pull over. Footage from his bodyworn camera shows a woman running to the deputy while holding the limp infant.

The deputy pats the baby on her back several times until she begins breathing short, shallow breaths. Police said her eyes were still not fully open, so he repositioned the girl. She then opened her eyes and began taking deeper breaths.

The baby was taken to the emergency room at St. Mary’s Hospital, treated and released early Monday morning. The family told the sheriff she was home and doing well.

The sheriff also wanted to remind the public to be aware on very hot days that everyone, but particularly the elderly, children and pets, should be kept in air-conditioned areas with plenty of fluids.
