Ready for school? Check Rapides open house dates, supply lists here

The first day of classes in Rapides Parish is just weeks away, and students will report back on a staggered schedule beginning Aug. 8.

On that date, students in first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth and 11th grades will report for classes. On the next day, Aug. 9, the other grades — second, fourth, sixth, eighth, 10th and 12th — will have their first day of classes.

Schools already have been announcing open house dates, as well as supply lists. And the school district said weeks ago that all students will eat breakfasts and lunches free this upcoming academic year.

The district successfully applied for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which is available to schools or districts in low-income areas. Rapides has received this funding annually since 2019.

The district also has announced school start and dismissal times, as well as school zones.

• Acadian Elementary School: 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4
• Alexandria Middle Magnet School: 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6
• Alexandria Senior High School: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 (Freshman parent orientation at 5:30 p.m. All other grades at 6:30 p.m.) Schedule pickup dates, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.: seniors, July 30; juniors, July 31; sophomores, Aug. 1; freshmen, TBD. All students must pay $40 school fee when getting schedules.
