Paramount Home Media Distribution has revealed The Stand 30th Anniversary SteelBook Edition Blu-ray for Mick Garris’ adaptation of the Stephen King epic.

The 1994 limited television event will be released in its new form on September 24, 2024, as a Walmart exclusive.

There are no details on whether it will feature anything else not on the original Blu-ray release. However, for collectors, the SteelBook art might be tempting anyway.

In Stephen King’s epic vision of an apocalyptic future, the few survivors of a plague-ravaged world must choose sides in the ultimate battle of good vs. evil that will decide the fate of humanity. As the followers of demonic Randall Flagg plot to rebuild the world in his dark image, a courageous foursome embarks on a heroic mission against Flagg and his minions. Fighting overwhelming odds, they will risk more than their lives as they take one desperate last stand against evil.

Adapted by Stephen King from his best-selling, celebrated novel, the all-star cast features Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, Jamey Sheridan, Laura San Giacomo, Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, Miguel Ferrer, Corin Nemec, Matt Frewer, Adam Storke, Ray Walston and Rob Lowe.

The Stand was adapted into a nine-episode television miniseries once again in 2020 for Paramount. Its cast included Whoopi Goldberg, James Marsden, Alexander Skarsgård, Odessa Young, Gordon Cormier, Owen Teague, and Amber Heard.

Stephen King’s work has long been a staple of television terror. Highlights include the IT miniseries, Under the Dome, Lisey’s Story, 11.22.63, Castle Rock, and Mr. Mercedes. The latest will be an IT prequel series titled Welcome to Derry. It sees the big screen Pennywise the Clown Bill Skarsgård reprise his iconic role.
