ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — While the heat and humidity will linger in Southwest and Central Virginia on Wednesday, an upcoming cold front will bring the chance for rain and cooler conditions.

Wednesday will start mostly dry with morning temperatures in the 60s and 70s. While it won’t be as hot during the afternoon, temperatures will rise into the upper 80s and lower/middle 90s with humid air in place.

Scattered showers and storms will have the chance to develop ahead of an approaching cold front. Rain chances are greater during the afternoon and evening. There will be some instability due to the heat and humidity, so a few strong to severe storms could form. The main storm concerns are gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

Some showers and storms will remain in the forecast on Thursday as the front stalls nearby. Downpours may occur. However, it won’t be raining the entire day. It will be slightly cooler with afternoon highs in the 80s.

Isolated showers and storms are possible on Friday. Otherwise, mostly to partly cloudy skies will be overhead for the day. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 50s and 60s before warming into the 80s by the afternoon.

Daily shower and thunderstorm chances will linger into the weekend, especially south of US 460. It won’t be a complete washout for the weekend, but you’ll want to keep the umbrella handy. Saturday’s highs will be in the 70s and lower/middle 80s. Sunday will be slightly warmer with afternoon temperatures in the 80s.
