CHEYENNE – Wyoming Education Association Vice President Kim Amen assumed leadership of the Wyoming Education Association on Monday.

Amen has served students as an educator for 31 years. She spent the first 13 years of her career directing Wyoming Early Childhood Education programs and the last 18 years in Laramie County School District 1 as a teacher of gifted and talented students in grades 1-4. She was active in the Cheyenne Teachers’ Education Association for 18 years and served as the statewide association’s treasurer, prior to taking office as the WEA vice president, where she served for four years.

During her term, Amen plans to prioritize organizing members and strengthening the association through streamlining and improving communications; bolstering membership numbers; building relationships between the association, family and community organizations; and digging deeper into listening tours and survey efforts to better identify members’ needs and priorities.

“I believe we have an opportunity to educate others about why the Wyoming Education Association is important and how they can be part of the movement to support public education. Serving as president involves advocating for educators, students, and the community, as well as promoting policies that support quality education,” said Amen. “I do not take this responsibility lightly, and I look forward to continuing to serve Wyoming’s students and public education employees in this new role.”
