Tennis was strong again in the Jackson area.
Three teams qualified for the TSSAA state tournament with all three, the Union City girls team and USJ boys and girls teams, advancing to the state championship match.
Jackson Christian sophomore Jack Veazey was named The Jackson Sun’s All-West boys tennis Tennessee Player of the Year for 2024 after winning the state championship by winning the final two matches in straight sets, including the championship match, 6-0, 6-2.
On the girls’ side, USJ senior Madeline Craig was named the All-West Tennessee girls tennis Player of the Year after playing a significant amount of tennis at the TSSAA state tournament. Craig played in the doubles tournament with her sister, Hayden, and won two singles matches in the state team tournament.
The Jackson Sun’s 2024 All-West Tennessee tennis teams include:
Girls
Anniston Allen
Milan, Jr.
Why chosen: Allen was part of a Bulldog doubles pairing which advanced to the TSSAA Class 1A state tournament with teammate Reagan Jones and played a competitive match, but fell 7-5, 6-3.
Shelby Bondurant
Union City, Sr.
Why chosen: Bondurant and doubles partner Molly Kizer advanced to the TSSAA Class 1A state championship match after winning the quarterfinal and semifinal matches in straight sets. Bondurant also won her singles match in the team state championship final.
Hayden Craig
USJ, So.
Why chosen: Craig won one of her singles matches to help the Bruins qualify for the TSSAA Division II-A team state championship match and, along with her sister, Madeline, advanced to the doubles championship match.
Madeline Craig
USJ, Sr.
Why chosen: Craig won both of her singles matches to help the Bruins advance to the TSSAA Division II-A state championship match and, with her sister, qualified for the state doubles championship to end her Bruin career.
Reagan Jones
Milan, Jr.
Why chosen: Jones, along with teammate, Anniston Allen, reached the TSSAA Class 1A doubles state tournament and played a competitive quarterfinal match before falling, 7-5, 6-3.
Molly Kizer
Union City, Sr.
Why chosen: Kizer, along with Shelby Bondurant, advanced to the TSSAA Class 1A doubles state championship match and won their doubles match in the team state semifinal to help the Golden Tornadoes advance to the state championship.
Boys
Andrew Lawrence
USJ, Sr.
Why chosen: Lawrence and his doubles partner, Tristan Scallion, advanced to the TSSAA Division II-A state championship match against their teammates, Preston Miller and Jack Wilkerson and helped the Bruins to the Division II-A state championship match as a team.
Olin Johnson
Obion County, Jr.
Why chosen: Johnson advanced to the TSSAA Class 1A singles state championship match after winning his quarterfinal and semifinal matches in straight sets.
Preston Miller
USJ, Sr.
Why chosen: Miller ended his career with consecutive TSSAA Division II-A state doubles championships with teammate Jack Wilkerson. The Bruins duo only lost one set in the state tournament to win their state title in 2024.

Tristan Scallion
USJ, Sr.
Why chosen: Scallion’s doubles pairing with Andrew Lawrence lost the first set of the TSSAA state tournament but battled back and didn’t lose a set until the championship match against their teammates.
Jack Wilkerson
USJ, Sr.
Why chosen: Wilkerson ended his USJ career with two TSSAA Division II-A state doubles championships in a row with teammate Preston Miller. He also scored a win for the Bruins in the team state championship match.
Jack Veazey
Jackson Christian, So.
Why chosen: Veazey won the TSSAA Division II-A singles state championship in dominant fashion, winning the championship match, 6-0, 6-2.

Why chosen: Measley’s Bruins squads had so much success in 2024 with the boys doubles pairings guaranteeing the program a state title, a girls doubles pairing reaching the state championship match and both teams advancing to the state title match in their respective brackets.
