Call the Midwife favorite Olly Rix has reportedly swapped one huge BBC drama for another as he joins the cast of Casualty .

According to The Sun , the actor, who plays Trixie Frankin's (Helen George) businessman husband, Matthew Aylward, has joined the long-running Saturday night medical drama as a hunky new surgeon.

A TV insider reportedly told The Sun: “He has already got viewers hot under the collar on Call the Midwife , but their pulses will be truly racing when they see Olly embrace the steamy new role.

“Although filming on the new series has been going on for weeks now, fans of Olly will have to wait until next year before they get the chance to see him on Casualty .”

So while we have a wait on our hands to see Olly in his new medical role, let's hope his new Casualty character is more like Nick Jordan ( Michael French ) than Patrick Onley (Jamie Glover)!

The news that Olly is already filming at Casualty also seemingly confirms the rumour that he won't be returning for Call the Midwife season 14 .

The Call the Midwife season 13 ending saw Matthew and Trixie's marriage hit the rocks when they lost all their money.

Despite Trixie vowing to stand by her husband whatever life threw at them, Matthew struggled with the fact he couldn’t give his wife the life she had become accustomed to and went to New York to put a new business venture into motion.

Trixie was heartbroken by his exit, however the final scenes of the season saw the pair reconnect over the phone, with Trixie agreeing to go to New York to be with her husband and make their marriage work. But could that be set to change?

One bit of good news for Call the Midwife fans however, is that we know Helen George will definitely be returning to the much-loved BBC drama after she confirmed she had started filming with a social media post. The new season is currently in production and will be back on our screens with a Christmas special later this year.

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One at 8.25pm. Call the Midwife season 14 is thought to return to the BBC this Christmas.
