CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Temporary lane closures will occur on Highway 61 starting Wednesday as Dominion Energy extends its natural gas service into Dorchester County.

Officials say the project will be done in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation and local law enforcement to extend gas distribution lines in the area.

Dominion Energy says the construction will happen approximately a half-mile east of the intersection of Bacons Bridge Road and Ashley River Road, ending at Watson Hill in Dorchester County.

Drivers can expect lane closures in those areas from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and officials say some weekends.

“We are committed to providing the reliable, affordable and increasingly clean
energy that powers our customers every day,” says Dominion Energy.

Officials say construction is expected to be completed this fall.
