MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (WJW)- Ohio Senator JD Vance will make his first speech as the Republican vice-presidential nominee on Wednesday night. Ohioans have known Vance for a while now, but the rest of the country will get to know him a little better tonight.
Donald Trump ’s running mate will introduce himself to a national audience as he addresses the Republican National Convention. We expect him to introduce his family , his wife and their three children, and will hear his endorsement of Trump’s policies.

JD Vance is the first Ohioan on a major party ticket since 1994. That’s when three-term Ohio Governor John Bricker ran with Republican presidential nominee Thomas Dewey against President Franklin Roosevelt.

Dewey, left of New York, and Governor John W. Bricker of Ohio, clasped hands following their acceptances of the Republican nominations for president and vice president respectively.
Former President Donald Trump returned to the convention Tuesday night, once again sitting next to Vance. Ohio is always an important state each election and that showed with multiple state leaders up front and center.
U.S. Senate candidate Bernie Moreno spoke, talking about how he immigrated here as a child and is living the dream but expressed how he believes criminals and illegal immigration is hurting the country.
Another Ohioan, Vivek Ramaswamy spoke as well, singing his praises for Donald Trump. And Governor Mike DeWine was in attendance. He was asked what he would do to fill Vance’s vacated senate seat if Donald Trump and JD Vance won the election.
So far, he isn’t saying who he might select – only the necessary attributes.
“You have to have someone who really wants to work, a workhorse,” said Gov. Mike DeWine. “Not a show horse. Someone who would legislate on behalf of people of Ohio and for the whole country.”
President Joe Biden , meanwhile, will speak in Nevada to spotlight record-low unemployment among Latinos. It’s a group of voters that was key to his victory in 2020.
