Update: More than 4,657 customers in York County still remain without power, according to Met-Ed.

The company posted on its Facebook page that crews have been working around the clock to restore electricity to about 16,000 customers in Adams, York and Bucks counties.

"As crews continue clearing and assessing damage, we do expect that this will be a multi-day restoration effort and we'll provide restoration updates for specific locations as they become available on our outage map: http://spr.ly/PAOutageMap ," the post states. "You can also text STAT to 544487 for an update for your specific outage."

    Reported earlier:

More than 9,400 Met-Ed customers in York County remain without power on Wednesday morning after gusty thunderstorms rolled through the area last evening, causing damage to trees and power lines .

The outages are mainly in the central and eastern half of the county, including Springettsbury and Hellam townships, and in the Hanover area, according to Met-Ed's website.

Thunderstorms rumbled across parts of York County last evening after temperatures hit a high of 100 degrees at the York Airport in Jackson Township. With the humidity, it felt more like 105 to 110 degrees, National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Steinbugl said.

The storms dropped about 1 to 1.5 inches of rain across the southern part of the county, but the northwestern area received little to no rain, Steinbugl said.

It is believed that local downbursts or straight line winds with the storms caused the damage in the area. Power lines blocked a road near Emigsville, Steinbugl said.

York County has closed its administrative building at 2401 Pleasant Valley Road in Springettsbury Township because of "intermittent power issues throughout the night," according to a news release. The county will be working with its power provider to safely restore service. All other buildings will open at normal hours.

Hellam Township Police reported that some houses suffered structural damage from the storm.

Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company posted photos of mangled tents at its carnival, which is being held this week. Volunteers will be assessing the extent of the damage today and determining whether the event will be able to resume this evening, the Facebook post states.

A trampoline became entangled in power lines in Conewago Township in Adams County. It inspired a Trampoline Latte at Britton Coffee Co. for Wednesday.

    Heatwave continues one more day

Wednesday will mark the fifth day of a heatwave for York County.

Meteorologists predict a high of 90 to 92 degrees today, but it's expected to feel like 100- to 104 degrees, Steinbugl said.

Isolated thunderstorms with damaging winds could move through the area later today.

A cold front will move through later tonight and more seasonable temperatures return on Thursday, Steinbugl said. The high is expected to be 85 degrees.
