Bill Belichick jumped to the media side in 2024 after leaving the New England Patriots. But the legendary head coach doesn't intend to be on that side for much longer. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, from NFL Network, Belichick is fully invested to return to the sidelines next year.

"Bill Belichick intends to coach in 2025," Pelissero said as a guest of The Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday. "He's fully invested in he wants to coach again. He wants to pursue the all-time wins record. Those are things that really matter a lot to Bill Belichick."

Don Shula, the former Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins head coach, achieved 328 wins between 1963 and 1995. Bill Belichick is third on the list, with 302 wins combining his wins for the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots (26 wins away from the record). George Halas is second with 318 victories.

Despite not being hired in the 2024 coaching cycle, Bill Belichick wants to stay close to the game while he waits for a new opportunity.

"He's staying engaged in the game," Pelissero added. "He's showing up to roasts, he's now going to be on Inside the NFL. We've seen him showing up to different events."

    Job hunt

It's unclear how many head coaching positions will be open a season from now, but Belichick didn't generate much interest from teams earlier in 2024. He interviewed twice with the Atlanta Falcons, but they ended up hiring Raheem Morris — and, reportedly, Belichick wasn't even close to the top of their final list. A recent report from ESPN 's Don Van Natta Jr., Seth Wickersham and Jeremy Fowler enlightened how the process went.

"Belichick's leadership style led, in part, to the decision by seven team owners to pass on him this offseason, and the bad blood between Kraft and Belichick was no secret around the league, according to more than a dozen sources close to the coach and owners who spoke with ESPN on the condition they remain anonymous."

This will be Bill Belichick's first season out of the NFL since 1975, when he was hired as a special assistant for the Baltimore Colts. He had two tenures as a head coach — in the old Cleveland Browns, from 1991 to 1995, and with the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2023. Except for his first season in Cleveland, he was also a de facto general manager, an approach he would most likely have to change to get back into coaching next year, when he will be 73 years old.
