A silly cat was told by his mom that if he wanted to hang out with the human baby, his paws needed to stay closed, and the cat's reaction went viral.

On July 12, 2024, TikTok user Chloe Bechthold (@chloeannabelleneal) shared a video of her cute little newborn and her cat, who had to be reminded to be careful. Take a look!

In a short but impactful video, we meet Ralph , a black and white cat who lives in a loving home and is now a proud big brother.

The clip starts with an adorable scene. Ralph, the black and white cat , is laying on top of his new baby brother who is taking a nap on the couch with his cozy blanket.

It's a really adorable scene, and of course, Mom is right there behind the camera when she notices Ralph attempting to do something she's previously told him he's not allowed to do.

So, she reminds him that he needs to know what his paws are doing when he's cuddling near the baby.

"Uh, keep your paws closed, or you're gonna get off him," Mom tells Ralph.

The moment she starts talking, he looks right at her, and you can see in his eyes that he understands every word. She's asking him to keep his nails closed because right at that point, Ralph stretches out his fingers, and Mom doesn't want him to accidentally scratch the baby.

The second mom finishes her reminder, Ralph closes his paws, hides his nails again, and gives her the funniest look, as if he's not impressed that she's stopping him from doing what he wants. "Thank you, mom tells Ralph.

And all the while, the sweet baby continues to sleep happily and peacefully.

"If ya need a good laugh," the caption of the video reads. And people had a field day in the comments and a good laugh as well.

One wrote, "He said I’m making baby murder biscuits relax."

Another added, "That eye roll was HEAVY."

Someone else joked, "The kitty knew the consequences."

Another added, "People don’t believe me when I say my cats understand EVERYTHING I say."

One person shared "the urge to be defiant, but ultimately wants to stay with the [baby]."

Someone else explained, "Cats understand other languages, I keep telling people but they never believe me."

And another viewer joked, "Those intrusive thoughts came in strong."

Introducing Your Cat To A New Baby

According to the Humane Society of the United States , you can do a few things if you're hoping to introduce your cat to a newborn human coming into the home. And it all comes with prep work so your cat can have a sense that changes are coming.

The organization suggests that you "Familiarize your cat with everything new that will come along with the baby’s arrival."

Adding, "When a baby arrives, everything that may seem incidental to us is a change that your cat needs time to adjust to. And from a cat’s perspective, there are a lot of changes!"

They explain that there will be new sounds and smells in the home when baby arrives, and changes we may not notice but our cats do. So it's good to introduce these changes before the baby comes.
