The Best Bets For The Open Championship

The majors wrap up this week as 156 players travel to Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland to compete for The Open Championship and a chance to hoist the Claret Jug.

Scottie Scheffler (+450)

Scottie Scheffler is the odds favorite to win The Open Championship and for good reason. He has the most wins on tour this year with six to go along with 13 top-10 finishes. He is at the top of many major statistics- strokes gained total, strokes gained tee-to-green, total driving, approach shots, and greens in regulation.

The one concern about Scheffler is he has not played in a tournament in almost a month. His last outing came in mid-June at the Travelers Championship where he beat out Tom Kim in a playoff. It will be interesting to see if there's any rust, but then again he's the world's number-one golfer, and always delivers on the biggest stages.

Ludvig Aberg (+1600)

Ludvig Aberg , the sophomore from Sweden, is already one of the best players in golf at just 24 years old. He has yet to win a tournament this year (one win in 2023), but he has knocked on the doorstep countless times, such as finishing second at The Masters and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. If there is anyone on tour that's due for a win it's Aberg.

Aberg is coming off a disappointing finish last week at the Genesis Scottish Open where he held the lead after 54 holes but ultimately finished T-4 after carding a +3 73 on Sunday. A tough finish like that may rattle some golfers heading into a major, but not Aberg. He always has a positive attitude, even when things are going poorly, so expect him to put the Scottish Open in the rearview mirror and let it fly at Royal Troon.

Aaron Rai (+8000)

The value for Aaron Rai is too intriguing not to bet. He is playing his best golf the last three weeks finishing T-2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T-7 at the John Deere Classic, and T-4 at the Genesis Scottish Open.

What gives Rai the edge over everyone else in the field is his driving accuracy, which ranks first on tour with a a 72.97% fairway hit rate. Being able to control the ball at Royal Troon will be a big factor, especially with the high winds coming off the Firth of Clyde and the tall grass engulfing the fairways.
