The first Ranma 1/2 trailer for the upcoming revival of the classic gender-swapping martial arts anime, which originally ran on-air from 1989-1992. Following its Japanese broadcast debut on October 5, the anime revival will exclusively start streaming on Netflix.

Check out the Ranma 1/2 trailer below (

    ):

What happens in the Ranma 1/2 trailer?

The trailer provides viewers with a first look at the Ranma 1/2 revival, after over three decades since the original series ended its seven-season run. The video also unveiled the show’s ensemble cast, including returning voice actors Kappei Yamaguch as the male Ranma Saotome, Megumi Hayashibara as Ranma Saotome, Noriko Hidaka as Akane Tendō, Minami Takayama as Nabiki Tendō, Kikuko Inoue as Kasumi Tendō, Kōichi Yamadera as Ryōga Hibiki, and Rei Sakuma as Shampoo.

“Saotome Ranma, a teenage martial artist, and his father Genma travel to the ‘cursed training ground’ of Jusenkyo in China,” reads the synopsis (via Anime News Network). “There, despite the warnings of the Chinese guard, they fall into the cursed springs. From now on, whenever Ranma is doused in cold water, he turns in to a girl, and a cute, well-built red-head at that. Hot water changes him back into a man again, but only until the next time. To make matters worse, his father engages him to Tendo Akane, a girl who hates boys.”

The anime is based on Rumiko Takahashi’s manga of the same name, which was first published in 1987. The revival is directed by Kōnosuke Uda from a script written by Kimiko Ueno, with Hiromi Taniguchi in charge of the character designing. Additional cast includes new cast members Akio Ōtsuka as Sōun Tendō, Chō as Genma Saotome, Kenichi Ogata as the new anime’s narrator. It is a production by MAPPA.
