RALEIGH — The application period for the next session of the N.C. Rural Center’s Homegrown Leaders training is now open. People who live or work in eastern North Carolina are encouraged to apply. The training will be held Sept. 10-12 in Kinston.
Homegrown Leaders is a three-day regional leadership and community economic development training course that equips existing and emerging leaders with the skills they need to lead long-term economic advancement in their community and region. Participating rural leaders will learn to use regional lens for developing long-term, sustainable solutions to common challenges and for capitalizing on innovative opportunities for growth.
Participants will also learn and apply skills needed to address diversity, equity and inclusion, adaptive leadership and community economic development.
“Leadership development has been a core part of our work for more than 35 years,” said N.C. Rural Center President and CEO Patrick Woodie. “And now more than ever, our rural communities need leaders who can connect and collaborate across county lines.”
The application period is open through Aug. 13. Applicants accepted into the program will be notified by Aug. 16. Accepted applicants will be expected to register and pay the $350 registration fee no later than Aug. 25. A limited number of scholarships are available.
“We are excited to welcome another group of current and emerging leaders to complete the Homegrown Leaders training and join our extensive network of leadership alumni across the state,” said N.C. Rural Center Director of Leadership Training Olaunda Green. “By equipping rural leaders, we empower them with the resources needed to have the greatest impact on their communities.”
Established in 1987, the N.C. Rural Center serves the state’s 78 rural counties, focusing on people with low to moderate incomes and communities with limited resources. For more information, visit www.ncruralcenter.org .
