Joe Manganiello Just Set the Record Straight on This Apparent Lie About His Split With Sofía Vergara

When Joe Manganiello and Sofía Vergara announced their split after seven years of marriage last year, fans couldn’t help but speculate what went wrong. And while some sources suggested their different lifestyles contributed to their split, there was another major reason going around: their different opinions on having kids .

But now that the dust has settled on their split, and they’ve both moved on with new partners , Manganiello is setting the record straight about what really went down. “There’s been a lot said in the press about me wanting a family,” the True Blood star told Men’s Journal .

More specifically, he addressed what Vergara told El País in January. “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” the Modern Family star told the outlet. “That’s simply not true,” Manganiello said of his ex’s statement.

“We did try to have a family for the first year and a half. And we had a huge conversation right out of the gate during the first month we dated. I said, ‘If you’re done with kids, then I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what this is, and that’s okay,'” he remembered. “But that wasn’t the case with her.”

“I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out,” he added. “And I didn’t.”

As time went on, however, Manganiello and Vergara’s other problems started bubbling to the surface. “[Kids] wasn’t inevitably why everything ended,” Manganiello asserted. “It’s because two people grew apart, and sometimes that happens.”

Looking back, the actor hates the way he’s been portrayed, both by the Griselda star and the media.

“To be painted as if I had some sort of midlife crisis, and after nine years, turned to somebody and gave them an ultimatum of, ‘Do this potentially unhealthy thing to your body, or else I’m gone’? That’s never who I was,” he said.

Manganiello is now dating actress Caitlin O’Connor while Vergara has since moved on with orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman . Regardless of how they split, we hope they can soon put the past behind them and turn the chapter.
