(FOX40.COM) — A series of improvements are soon to be underway at Sacramento Regional Transit’s busiest bus-to-train hub at Watt/I-80 Transit Center.

The multi-level transit center serves the northeast area of Sacramento County but also serves as an important connection point for users of Placer County’s public transit systems.

SacRT plans $100 million bus fleet reimagining

The planned project will include multiple improvements in the immediate and surrounding area of the transit center.

    Improvements will include:
    • Widening of the Watt Avenue Bridge
    • New open-air stairwell from Watt Avenue to the Transit Center
    • Improvements to the I-80 on ramps
    • And upgrades to the Transit Center directly beneath Watt Ave

There will be some temporary modifications in bus services and lane closures on the lower level of the Transit Center.

Construction began on Monday and the whole project is to be completed in early-2026.
