Following last week’s chilling Nintendo teaser trailer, today, a new Famicom Detective title has been revealed as the subject of last week’s teaser, paper bag masks and all.

The newest horror title brought to fans from Nintendo features a follow-up from the cryptic teaser of last week, that has made its way into this week with a full-on reveal. For the first time in over 30 years, fans can say, ‘There’s a new Famicom Detective game coming out soon’ because the teaser from last week was a reveal for just that. Today, Nintendo has revealed Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club , and a new trailer can be seen on the official Nintendo YouTube channel .

In the new trailer, the Producer for Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club , Yoshio Sakamoto, starts by explaining the game series as “a series of adventure games, of which the first two games were released for the Famicom Disk System about 30 years ago. Both games were designed with the image in mind of a mystery movie that you progress through and solve.” Sakamoto says that while working on the remakes from 2021, this innovative design led him to believe a new title in the series “definitely” needs to happen.

Getting into the dark details of Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club , Sakamoto explains the main antagonist of the game bargains with his victims, offering specifically crying girls a paper bag with a smile on it (a makeshift mask) in exchange for their life, an urban legend crafted for Detective Club ‘s latest entry. In The Smiling Man , players will be tasked with working in collaboration with the Utsugi Detective Agency in an attempt to solve a murder that appears to be pulled from this urban legend.

Sakamoto details that “This is Famicom Detective Club at its best,” referring to the newest title. Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club launches on August 29 exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
