    Update

The York County SPCA is thanking the community for all stepping up to foster dogs as a its shelter lost power for an extended period. "Thanks to your generosity, we got 43 dogs into emergency foster homes!" said Facebook post yesterday evening .

As the shelter is still without power the SPCA suggests anyone who can help to stop by the shelter today, July 18, after 9 a.m. "We provide all the necessary supplies to ensure your experience is successful, including – food, medications, toys, crates, etc." For more information, email info@ycspca.org.

    Reported ealier:

Already reeling with a surplus of dogs, and a partial quarantine, the County SPCA lost power the evening of July 16 during a storm with high winds and is in desperate need of emergency foster homes. The Brougher Companion Animal Shelter and the spay/neuter clinic is still without power due to the severe storms.

"Our primary concern is the health and well-being of our canine population, especially in these high heat and humidity conditions. We are in desperate need of emergency foster homes for our dogs, even if it's just for a short period of 2-3 days until we can restore power. We provide all the necessary resources for our foster parents, including food, toys, crates, medication, and more," said Kristen Dempwolf, communications director.

According to Dempwolf, the kennel is still partially quarantined for canine parvovirus. However, most dogs in their care are fully vaccinated and not at risk for transmitting the virus, adding that if you have other dogs in the home and would like to foster one of our dogs temporarily, they recommend that all dogs in the home be up to date with the DHPP vaccine for parvovirus. All positive and high-risk dogs in their care are separated from the general canine population, so the risk of our shelter dogs and your resident dogs contracting the virus is extremely minimal.
