NFL analyst gives Dolphins brutal offseason grade

The Miami Dolphins are entering a very pivotal year that could determine the long-term direction of their franchise.

They led the NFL total offense a year ago, and were bounced in the wildcard round, once again. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa put up a QBR of 15.3 in that loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and just like that , Miami’s season was over.

Now, the Dolphins need to figure out if paying Tua is the correct move, or if they are better off pursuing and paying another quarterback (cough cough Dak Prescott cough cough).

Miami’s offense returns all of its stars, and added speed through the draft by selecting Malik Washington out of Virginia. That said, Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports doesn’t love what they did this offseason and gave them a C- grade.

“The Dolphins had a ton of free agency movement, coming in and going out. Miami had two big free-agent losses,” Schwab wrote. “Defensive tackle Christian Wilkins got $110 million from the Raiders and guard Robert Hunt got $100 million from the Panthers. Those two, along with Kirk Cousins, were the only three players to get more than $100 million to switch teams this offseason.”

Schwab touched on the additions of Kendall Fuller and Jordyn Brooks, but noted that overall it feels like the Dolphins “lost more than they gained.”

If Miami doesn’t win a playoff game this year - or even if they win in the wildcard round and get humiliated in the divisional round by a superior opponent - they really need to ask themselves if Tua is the answer, and if they should make a play for a better quarterback.
