Both Robert Downey Jr. and Da’Vine Joy Randolph landed Emmy nominations this morning, hot on the heels of their Oscar wins for Oppenheimer and The Holdovers . While Poor Things Oscar winner Emma Stone was also expected to be nominated this morning for her turn on Showtime’s The Curse , she wound up being snubbed.

Coming off his first Oscar win for his turn in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic, Downey was recognized today for his multiple-character performance in HBO’s The Sympathizer . Receiving his first Primetime Emmy nomination all the way back in 2001, for a supporting turn on Ally McBeal , he’s also the winner of a Daytime Emmy, having been recognized as the exec producer of Outstanding Lifestyle Program Downey’s Dream Cars earlier this year. Downey’s competitors in Movie/Limited Supporting Actor include Jonathan Bailey ( Fellow Travelers ), Tom Goodman-Hill ( Baby Reindeer ), John Hawkes ( True Detective: Night Country ), Lamorne Morris ( Fargo ), Lewis Pullman ( Lessons in Chemistry ), and Treat Williams ( Feud: Capote vs. The Swans ).

Randolph’s nomination for a guest turn on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building is her first. Her competitors in Comedy Guest Actress include Olivia Colman ( The Bear ), Jamie Lee Curtis ( The Bear ), Kaitlin Olson ( Hacks ), Maya Rudolph ( Saturday Night Live ) and Kristen Wiig ( Saturday Night Live ).

While Downey and Randolph are the most recent Oscar winners up for Emmys in 2024, they’re far from the only honorees of the Film Academy to have been recognized this morning. As previously mentioned, Oscar winners Curtis and Colman were both nominated for their work on The Bear , with Meryl Streep securing a nom in the category of Comedy Supporting Actress for her work on Only Murders in the Building . Gary Oldman entered competition with his lead role in Apple TV+’s Slow Horses , with Jodie Foster scoring in Movie/Limited Actress for True Detective: Night Country , and Brie Larson being nominated in the same category for Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry .

Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon (Drama Actress, The Morning Show ) was in the same company, as (technically) was Only Murders star Steve Martin, as a Comedy Actor nom who received an Honorary Oscar in 2013.

This year’s Primetime Emmys are set to take place at the Peacock Theater downtown on September 15.
