$26 million in improvements for highways in Kansas communities

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) — Governor Laura Kelly has announced that $26 million in funding will be provided for 33 road improvement projects across the state.
The funds come from the Kansas Department of Transportation’s City Connecting Link Improvement Program, which funds highway projects that extend through cities across the state. Cities must contribute up to 25% of the project’s costs based on their population, with no contribution for communities under 2,500 people.
“This popular program makes it possible to improve the safety and accessibility of our local highways that are local centers of community life,” said Governor Laura Kelly. “Thanks to our increasingly solid financial footing at the state and federal levels, Kansas is finding ways to solve problems and bring resources to various regions of the state.”
The projects are divided into three categories: Surface Preservation, which includes resurfacing and is funded up to $400,000; Pavement Restoration, which includes replacing the road structure completely and is funded up to $1.5 million; and Geometric Improvements, which can mean rebuilding intersections, adding turn lanes, or other improvements to traffic flow and is funded up to $1.5 million.
