A smart man, indeed. Over the weekend, reigning Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney secured his second win of the season at the Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway. He got his his first win of the season in June at Iowa, and this second one marks the 12th in total of Blaney’s career at the NASCAR Cup Series level. But what made the win even more special is that fact that his fiancé, Gianna, was there, along with some of her family members in what was some of their first-ever race. Ryan and Gianna got engaged last December, and she is a former Hooters brand ambassador and model: https://www.instagram.com/p/C9YL_VYSiS4/?img_index=1 And while they're not married quite yet, it sounds like Ryan already has an important part of the whole thing down in terms of impressing Gianna's family. In an interview after the race, he said he earned "easy brownie points" with them on Sunday, seeing as he won at their first time and they got to experience Victory Lane too. I mean, how many people can say that? It's so cool...
"Yeah, yeah. Her dad was here, a couple of her nephews and aunts and uncles. So there was about eight of them here today, so that was neat to share that with them. It's always cool to have family at your races. Gianna wasn't with me in Iowa, but I had a lot of other family there at Iowa. I've been really fortunate this year, having a lot of family with me when I've been able to win, so that just makes it special, right? A couple of them, it was their first time to a race in general, and it was their first time to victory lane. Like, that's the coolest experience ever. Brownie points, all day. That's just easy, easy brownie points. It's cool to share it with them, that's for sure, future family. It's neat to share those experiences and have those memories for many years."
Something tells me he earned more than a few brownie points from that experience: Blaney and the Cup Series drivers will head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway this Sunday for the Brickyard 400, which airs at 2:30 PMEST on NBC.
