The mother of a British man missing in Sardinia desperately pleaded for help to find her “very sweet boy”.
Cristina Pittalis said Michael Frison vanished after becoming confused and undressing himself on a walk in the Italian countryside near Luogosanto on Saturday.
A huge search involving firefighters and the Forest Guard has been launched to locate Mr Frison, 25, who was on a volunteering trip.
Mr Frison was last seen by an isolated farmhouse surrounded by dense forest.
On Facebook, Mrs Pittalis - who is flying out from Bristol with his younger brother to join the manhunt - urged locals: “He is a very sweet boy, you can approach him without fear, please, if you see him stop him, talk to him, but don’t leave him alone.
“Please, if you can, look in your land, in your homes.
“If you get a chance, please go and help with the search.”
She added to The Independent : “He was hoping to do some volunteering work but when he arrived he was very tired, not used to the heat and was possibly dehydrated.
“He went to sleep, and the following day, he was visibly confused.
“So they gave him water and let him sit in the shade.
“But he said he would go for a little walk and he hasn’t been seen since. It’s quite an impervious area.”
Asking people not to speculate on his disappearance, she said: “He is a wonderful young man. There were no drugs or alcohol involved. I’m devastated. He must be so scared.
“We are so close, you have no idea. He is so close to his little brother.
“He would never do anything like this to us. We have been through a lot together. His friends in Bristol know him very well. He’s just very fragile and very sensitive.”
In a direct message to Mr Frison, she told the news outlet: “I love you, I miss you, everything will be fine, darling.
“We are strong together, and we can do this together. Help me find you, tesoro mio [my treasure].”
Mr Frison – described as 5ft 7ins, with brown, long hair and shaved sides - disappeared at 5.18pm on July 13.
His family released a picture taken on a beach last week in the hope it would help easily identify him.
News of Mr Frison’s case came after the remains of British teenager Jay Slater were found near the village of Masca in Tenerife on Monday.
Jay, 19, had attended the NRG music festival with two friends before his disappearance, sparking a 29-day search.
His last known location was the Rural de Teno Park in the north of the Canary Island , which was about an 11-hour walk from his accommodation.
Jay had travelled to an Airbnb in Masca after a night out with two men.
Spanish police said they had called off the search for the apprentice bricklayer at the end of June after helicopters, drones and search dogs were deployed to find him.
