    Angela Simmons is that girl.

Since her days as a reality star on MTV’s Run’s House , Angela has continued defining herself and living on her own terms. It’s been clear from the beginning that she has always wanted to do more—and do it all her way.

The daughter of Joseph “Rev Run “ Simmons of Run-DMC and the niece of Russell Simmons , Angela grew up in a household brimming with industry influence, business savvy, and cultural creativity. Amid the pressures of living up to her family’s legacy, she carved out her own path.

The 36-year-old has worn many hats and taken on many challenges. Early on, she was bit by the fashion bug.

She started Pastry , a fun, colorful sneaker line, with her sister Vanessa in 2011. Later, she showed her collection, Angela I Am , during New York Fashion Week in 2013 and launched another line, Foofi , in 2015. Foofi was a faux fur collection named in honor of her favorite family pet.

In addition to her fashion explorations, Angela hosted BET’s 106 & Park , secured partnerships and brand collaborations, and played supporting roles in several reality TV shows. Her mother, sister, and girlfriend roles have also contributed to her popularity. She seems to balance everything flawlessly, inspiring women who do it all.

    Again, Angela is that girl.

Despite her long list of accolades and inspiring voice, the Angela’s Cakes owner has found herself in the middle of recent social media critique and backlash. Her 2024 BET Awards Show red carpet ensemble – and weapon accessory – spurred headlines and think pieces. And her promo pictures for a new limited edition offering of vegan fried Oreos with a popular restaurant Slutty Vegan sent some blog sites and platforms into a frenzy.

Fans questioned recent choices, styling, and decisions. But Angela – on both occasions –  was unfazed.

After apologizing to those offended by her BET look, she moved forward with her Oreo launch. Then, seeing blowback from social media imagery, she took her famed dessert pictures to Times Square, making them larger than life. Further, Angela created her own memes, clapping back at naysayers and joining in the fun of social comments.

In an age of curated social media personas, Angela stands out for her authenticity. Sis is refreshing!

Whether discussing her business challenges, managing her personal life, or apologizing for a fashion faux pas, Angela’s candidness fosters community and support among her fans and followers. Angela embodies strength and resilience—two characteristics often synonymous with Black womanhood.
