Andra Day Faces Generational Demons In ‘The Deliverance’ Trailer

Netflix has revealed the trailer for a pending horror film from Lee Daniels where a struggling, single mother is faced with her demons — literally. Starring Andra Day, The Deliverance is described as inspired by a true story offering a genre-defying take on darkness, possession, and finding a higher power.

“Remember, before we get started, whatever it says to you, do not listen to it,” says Apostle Bernice James, the character played by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor to a visibly scared Andra Day in her role as Ebony Jackson. “It will play on your heart, it will play on your mind.”

In the film, Jackson moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. Strange occurrences inside the house raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart. This results in Ebony becoming locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children.

“It’s a thriller, it’s horror, but it’s also a family drama. It’s genre-bending,” details Andra Day to PEOPLE. “It’s also a movie about faith, which is really important to me, too.”

Directed by Daniels, The Deliverance also stars Glenn Close, Mo’Nique, Caleb McLaughlin, Tasha Smith, Omar Epps, Demi Singleton, and Miss Lawrence.

Writers include David Coggeshall, Elijah Bynum, Lee Daniels, and Thomas Westfall. Daniels, Tucker Tooley, Pamela Oas Williams, Jackson Nguyen, and Todd Crites produced, with Jackie Shenoo, Hilary Shor, Greg Renker, and Gregoire Gensollen credited as executive producers.

The official logline reads as follows:

“Inspired by a terrifying true story, a mother fights for her life, her faith, and the souls of her children after discovering their new home is haunted by a demonic presence “

“You won’t want to miss either of them, so stay tuned,” revealed Mo’Nique in July 2022 when announcing both the movie and her own Netflix comedy special. “Thank you all and I love y’all to life!”
