Peacemaker Season 2: Frank Grillo Offers Filming Update, Threatens John Cena in BTS Video

Actor Frank Grillo has revealed that he has touched down in Atlanta to begin filming Peacemaker Season 2.

Grillo will make his DC Universe debut as military leader Rick Flag Sr. in the forthcoming adult animated series Creature Commandos, which is set to release on Max this December. With his role in Peacemaker Season 2, Grillo will become one of the first DCU actors to make the jump from animation to live-action. When Grillo’s casting was first announced in May, DC Studios head James Gunn teased that John Cena’s Christopher Smith/Peacemaker and Rick Flag Sr. had “a little unfinished business to take care of.”

Grillo shared on his Instagram Story (via X , formerly Twitter) that his commitments to the Paramount+ show Tulsa King are complete, so he can begin work on Peacemaker Season 2. In the video, a shirtless Grillo threateningly states, “It’s the start of Peacemaker. I got a bone to pick with John Cena. He killed my son, Rick Flag Jr. It’s about to go down and I’m taking him with me.”

The video also included the following caption, “#Peacemaker season 2. This is going to be epic. He’s [Cena’s] a big boy so upping the protein.”

Peacemaker Season 2 will address a major Suicide Squad death

Although The Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker Season 1 are not officially canon to the DCU since they were released as part of the DC Extended Universe, Gunn has confirmed that certain events from those projects still happened in the DCU. One of those events that will be carried forward into the DCU was the death of Rick Flag Sr.’s son, Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman), in The Suicide Squad. With Peacemaker behind Rick Jr.’s death, it looks like Gunn is setting up a revenge arc of sorts for Rick Sr. in Season 2.

Besides Grillo and Cena, the cast for Peacemaker Season 2 includes Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee — who are all returning from the first season as Leota Adebayo, Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Emilia Harcourt, and John Economos, respectively — as well as Sol Rodríguez (Star Trek: Picard) as Sasha Bordeaux and David Denman (The Office) in a mystery role.

Peacemaker Season 2 is currently in production and does not yet have a release date. Meanwhile, Peacemaker’s first season is available to stream on Max.
