Nike’s First Ever Breakdancing Shoe Arrives Just In Time For The Sport’s Olympic Debut

T he 2024 Paris Olympics are coming up, and one of many new sports making their debut is breaking.

And with Nike , one of the leading sportswear companies in the world and in charge of Team USA’s gear, they’re going all out for the Olympics’ newest sport.

The Swoosh shows out with more than just gear for breaking; it even has a new sneaker, the Nike Jam, specially made for dancers.

“The Nike Jam, the first shoe designed for breaking, maximizes athletes’ ability to slide across smooth competition surfaces as well as concrete and asphalt,” reads the press release.

Nike made sure to create a model that looks good on and off the floor, yet it made sure the first offerings paid homage to its roots.

The shoe features a mix of mesh, layered leather, and sued, allowing for breathability and flexibility while still being tough enough to withstand the ground. An upside-down reversed swoosh highlights a low midsole, making it easier for breakers to feel the ground with as much stability as possible.

The tan and black colorway represents the cardboard breakers used, and the black and gum colorway is inspired by the turntables and microphones DJs and MCs used. A third colorway, done by frequent Nike collaborator and legendary artist Futura, is done up in white and black and connects to his 1980 Break Train.

“Building on my history of collaborating with Nike, I’m very honored and grateful to be chosen to participate in this collection,” says Futura in the press release. “The outcome is amazing. The Jam is a beautiful, brand-new model that’s been created from the ground up for what the dancers themselves want to perform and feel comfortable in.”

USA aside, Nike will also outfit breakers from Korea and Japan at the Games.

You can buy the new model and some of the apparel right now on nike.com and select retail stores, while federation kits go on sale on August 1. If you’re looking to buy the Futura colorway, be prepared to swipe your card sometime this Fall.
