    ‘The Traitors’ Lands Reality Competition Emmy Nomination, ‘Survivor’ Misses Out

    The Traitors is arguably one of the biggest breakout entertainment formats since The Masked Singer and the TV Academy has noticed.

    The Peacock series has been nominated in the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category for the first time.

    The Alan Cumming-hosted series will compete against The Amazing Race, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Top Chef and The Voice in the category.

    Survivor misses out from last year after the CBS show landed its first nomination in the category for its 11th and 12th seasons.

    RuPaul’s Drag Race won last year and has won five of the last six years, missing out in 2022 against Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls. The competition series received 10 nominations today with RuPaul receiving another nomination for Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Competition Program – the ninth consecutive year, the most in the category’s history. It also received a choreography nomination for the first time.

    Last year, The Traitors , a murder mystery format that takes place in the Scottish Highlands, won the award for Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program but it was not nominated in the main category.

    Cumming told Deadline that after the success of the first season, the team was willing to be bolder with the format and embrace the “nuttiness” of his outfits.

    “The more sort of theatrical elements of it — we were maybe a little tentative about in the first season, because it was so new, it was great to be able to embrace them fully,” he added. “We found our stride and tone more in Season 2.”

    The Traitors is produced by Studio Lambert and is exec produced by Rees-Jones, Stephen Lambert, Mike Cotton, Rosie Franks, Tim Harcourt and Jack Burgess. Cumming is a producer.

    It has already been renewed for a third season, expected to air early next year.
