Since the 1950s, country music has played home for the iconic Willie Nelson. Currently 91 years old, the singer continues to tour the country, entertaining his countless fans. Spending numerous decades in country music, Willie produced over 70 studio albums. His last, The Border, released back in May. Showing no signs of slowing down, outside of battling a mysterious illness, Willie not only recorded hit songs but also produced memorable moments like the time he took the stage with his daughter, Paula Nelson, to perform a song by Creedence Clearwater Revival “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?”

Given his musical talents, it appeared that Willie bestowed those same talents on his children. Outside of Paula, his son Lukas Nelson also nurtured a promising career on the stage. And with the family leaving their mark on country music, both Paula and Willie showcased that amazing talent while honoring Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Bringing in nearly 200,000 views since it was uploaded, fans filled the comment section with praise as the two singers mesmerized those in attendance. “Willie another awesome performance….You and that guitar take the prize though…You are an amazing fella and we ALL love you and admire your talents….Big hug!” And one fan insisted, “Always wanted to be one of Willie’s kids. What a great life that would of been. As a fellow Texan. I have seen him many times. Always great. Paula has a great voice.”

“Brings Tears to My eyes,” one fan wrote. “Raw emotion right there. This is a superb rendition of a great song,” added another.

Willie Nelson Named Paula Nelson After Best Friend And Drummer

As for Paula, she once discussed the meaning behind her name and how Willie named her after his drummer and best friend Paul English. Willie even wrote a song about him titled “Devil in a Sleepin’ Bag.”

Back in 2022, Paula talked about the song with Texas Monthly. When asked what she loved about the song, the singer admitted, “So many things. Of course, being that it’s written about Paul English, whom I was named after. And he and his first wife, Carlene, is where I got the name, Paula Carlene. I mean, the title, “Devil in a Sleepin’ Bag,” because I know you’ve seen photos of him, but he would wear the big cape, and he had the long sideburns and a red cape. He always was dressed to the nines, but he looked a little bit like the devil.”

While some found English intimidating, Paula saw him as unique. “He was great. He was one of a kind. And up until the day he passed, every time I see him, he’d say, “Hey, Paula Carlene,” and just the biggest hug. And he was a treasure to us all.”
