    Emmys: Carol Burnett Becomes Oldest Female Comedy Acting Nominee for ‘Palm Royale’

    At 91, Carol Burnett has become the oldest female comedy acting Emmy nominee for her performance in Apple TV+’s Palm Royale .

    The star landed a nomination for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series on Wednesday, recognized alongside Liza Colón-Zayas ( The Bear ), Hannah Einbinder ( Hacks ), Janelle James ( Abbott Elementary ), Sheryl Lee Ralph ( Abbott Elementary ) and Meryl Streep ( Only Murders in the Building) .

    Dick Van Dyke, at 98, currently holds the record for the oldest person to earn a Daytime Emmy Awards nomination. Cecily Tyson was nominated in 2018 for guest acting in How to Get Away with Murder (she was 93), Ernest Borgnine received a guest acting nomination in 2009 for ER (he was 92).

    Burnett herself has been nominated for an Emmy 24 times and won seven times, including outstanding guest actress in a comedy series in 1997 for Mad About You , and most recently won in 2023 for producing her Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laugher + Love special. She was also inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1985.

    In Palm Royale , Burnett plays Normal Dellacorte, the comatose and super-wealthy aunt-in-law to Kristen Wiig’s Maxine. The series also stars Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Laura Dern and Allison Janney and received 11 Emmy nominations total, including best comedy series and best lead actress in a comedy series for Wiig.

    The 76th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live Sept. 15 on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu. The ceremony will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
