Miami Dolphins’ Top Playmaker Receives Ominous Take For 2024

The Miami Dolphins boasted the best offense in the NFL last season, and while the superb wide receiver tandem of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle was the primary reason why, the Dolphins were also backed by a terrific ground game.

Raheem Mostert dazzled as the featured running back in 2023, rushing for 1,012 yards and a league-leading 18 touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Then, there was rookie halfback De’Von Achane, who had a ridiculous 11-game campaign (he missed six games due to injury) in which he rattled off 800 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 7.8 yards per carry (no, that is not a typo). He also caught 27 passes for 197 yards and three scores.

Naturally, Achane has generated a lot of buzz heading into 2024 Fantasy Football drafts, but Kyle Soppe of Pro Football Network is not entirely convinced that Achane will replicate his success.

Soppe wonders what will happen to Achane’s production if Miami doesn’t have as favorable of a game script this year (the Dolphins spent much of 2023 with double-digit leads) and if he will fade if he plays a full 17-game campaign.

It should be noted that the bulk of Achane’s 2023 output came between Weeks 3 and 5, when he racked up 455 yards and five touchdowns as a rusher. He also logged an insane 12.3 yards per attempt during that stretch. The 22-year-old would only tally one 100-yard performance the rest of the way, which came in Week 17.

Are the Dolphins legitimate contenders heading into 2024?

Something didn’t feel quite right with the Dolphins all year in 2023, and sure enough, they tailed off down the stretch and were routed by the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

To be fair, Miami was ravaged by injuries during the second half of the season, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. But even prior to that, the Dolphins seemed fishy (no pun intended), and the fact that they only beat one team with a winning record all year long lent credence to that.

Many have questions about whether or not quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is capable of leading a team to a Super Bowl, and Miami also lost some key defensive pieces this offseason (and it wasn’t like the Dolphins were defensive juggernauts to begin with).

Couple that with the fact that Miami plays in an incredibly deep AFC, and you begin to understand why no one is really mentioning the Dolphins as championship contenders in 2024.

We’ll see if Miami can prove everyone wrong next winter.
