WEATHER ALERT: Chance for thunderstorms, heavy rain, gusty winds

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A 22News Storm Team Weather Alert for the chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms on Wednesday that could be strong to severe.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for western Massachusetts until 8 p.m. The main threats are damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours, which may lead to localized flooding and large hail.

Wednesday will be a partly to a mostly sunny day with highs in the low to middle 90s. It will be very humid. The chance for afternoon and evening thunderstorms continues with some storms becoming strong to severe with heavy rain, strong winds, and hail.

The main timeframe for storms to develop will be between 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. with the highest severe threat between 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for eastern Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties through Wednesday evening. The heat index will make it feel like it’s around 100 degrees.
