Baltimore County Police Department have announced that Sgt. Eric Knox, a school resource officer once assigned to the Essex Precinct, will be resigning after being with the agency for 24 years.

Knox was promoted to the rank of sergeant and subsequently assigned to Precinct 11 (Essex) in fall 2017.

During a stint that spanned more than two decades, Knox served in numerous capacities and leadership positions, including:

Knox pursued a career in law enforcement following his father’s footsteps, according to BCPD spokesperson Trae Corbin. Knox began as a school resource officer in 2004 under now-Chief Robert McCullough; he now oversees the SRO program.

“He has loved his job every day of his 24 years and would not trade his experience for the world,” Corbin said.

“The Baltimore County Police Department has the best School Resource Officers in the country and it has been a great success and experience working with them each school year during his tenure. It has been the hardest decision of his life but he wants to continue supporting school safety and putting students first keeping them safe each and everyday.”

Knox is also an experienced K9 trainer commercial aircraft pilot who enjoys flying helicopters in his spare time. BCPD members, relatives and colleagues came together to bid farewell to Knox in a ceremony on July 12.

He has dedicated a large portion of his career to school safety training, advising, and support, and will continue to support Baltimore County Public Schools in the future, according to Corbin.

“A 24-year veteran of the department, Sgt. Knox is moving on to a new position,” Crobin said in a statement to The Avenue. “We thank him for his service in keeping students safe and wish him the best!”
