Local organizations open cooling stations to the public

SPARTANBURG COUNTY—A number of organizations across Spartanburg County are opening their doors to the public to help people cool off during the heatwave that began this month and looks to continue into August.

Officials say the organizations, which include Landrum Fire & Rescue District, Campobello Fire Department and Campobello Police Department, are partnering with Spartanburg Emergency Management to provide a safe and cool environment where people can beat the heat, grab a cold bottled water, and relax during the hottest parts of the day.

With an influx of heat-related calls, including structure fires, heat exhaustion, and heat strokes, the cooling stations aim to minimize residents’ and visitors’ exposure to the sweltering heat of summer.

The cooling stations will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will close once the heatwave subsides.

Other locations that are offering cooling stations are Boiling Springs Fire Department of Spartanburg, Drayton Fire Department, Duncan Fire Department, North Spartanburg Fire Department, Poplar Springs Fire Service Area, South Spartanburg Fire District and Tyger River Fire District.
