Manchester United To Complete Stunning Leny Yoro Transfer
Manchester United are quickly asserting themselves in the Summer transfer window. Their latest acquisition is set to be French defender Leny Yoro. The 18-year-old center back had an impressive season that saw LOSC Lille finish fourth in Ligue Un. Of course, that also guarantees Champions League qualification. With a host of top teams around Europe circling around him a move this Summer is basically assumed. However, it is the Red Devils that will win the race to sign what some call “the Mbappe of center backs.” Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news of the move earlier this afternoon:
For months many expected Real Madrid to swoop in and add him to their ranks of supremely talented young players. However, they were unwilling to pay more than 20 million euros for the Frenchman. Despite adding Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer they are paying him an exorbitant amount of wages in his new contract. They don’t exactly have boatloads to spend this Summer hence their original offer.
United, on the other hand, have taken the Summer window by the horns under new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. They already secured the signing of Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee and are on the verge of announcing Yoro’s transfer. After offering Lille upwards of 70 million euros they gave themselves a clear advantage over Real in negotiations. Lille accepted the offer immediately and it has since been a battle to settle personal terms. Of course, it’s very likely Yoro will eventually move to the Bernabeu in future years but for now it’s a statement signing for a club that needs it.
Summer Still In Swing
Furthermore, it’s very possible they return to the market. It’s even rumored for another defender should they be able to offload a current player like Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire. The Red Devils made headlines recently for progressing on a deal with Bayern Munich defender Mattias De Ligt but it is now stalled due to this. Reinforcing the backline after finishing eighth in the Premier League with a negative goal differential was their number one priority.
While the Frenchman’s potential is clearly sky-high he is already a very good player. His athleticism and ability on the ball will allow Erik ten Hag to push his defensive line higher up the pitch and become a more possession-based team. After the club chose to stick with the Dutchman for next season they are giving him strong reinforcements. Check out the below tweet from Statman Dave to see exactly what kind of player they have on their hands:
As if United fans can’t be happy enough, it is almost a guarantee that more signings come through the door. First, though there needs to be outgoings. Sir Ratcliffe and the INEOS group have already been very proactive in that department. Names like Donny van De Beek, Antony Martial, and Raphael Varane are already gone. And former academy products Willy Kambwala and the controversial Mason Greenwood are exiting . A midfielder like Manuel Ugarte of PSG is on United’s radar and even another attacking option like Xavi Simons is not completely out of the question.
This day will go down in history for Manchester United. After years of malpractice in the transfer market, their new ownership group is putting the hammer down and finally operating as they should.
