LITTLETON, Colo. ( KDVR ) — E-bike affordability and accessibility is something Colorado Gov. Jared Polis has been pushing for, and Wednesday at Chatfield State Park , he announced a new e-bike initiative.

Polis said rentable e-bikes are now available at Chatfield State Park. The program gives Coloradans more opportunities to get outside and enjoy the summer weather.

“These new rentable e-bikes give Coloradans another opportunity to get outside, enjoy our beautiful state, and stay active this summer. E-bikes reduce traffic and pollution while saving people money and time,” said Polis.

Statewide e-bike tax credit will save Coloradans $450

According to the governor’s office, Chatfield visitors can scan a QR code and pay $1 to unlock an e-bike. It will then cost riders 25 cents a minute to use, or about $15 per hour. Park visitors can explore the state park or ride around the entire reservoir, which is about 11 miles.

This rental system follows the launch of Colorado’s e-bike tax credit, which started on April 1, also known as Colorado’s second annual E-Bike Day. This year, Colorado residents received an e-bike tax credit of up to $450 per person, allowing the community to celebrate the rise of electric bikes as a healthy and sustainable zero-emission transportation option.

Polis said he hopes this can serve as a low-cost way to introduce people to e-bikes. It’s also a safe way to learn how to use an e-bike.
